Disney Ear Review: Pirates of the Caribbean Cursed Treasure

Our ear review of a Disney Parks headband with a very different pirate aesthetic

There are a lot of ears out there inspired by Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean ride. From “Redd” official Disney Parks ear hats to custom pairs on Etsy, there’s a veritable ocean of Pirates of the Caribbean ears that can make you feel like a swashbuckler!

We even reviewed a pair last year that featured a fun velvet scarf and dangling keys!

The majority of Pirates-inspired ear headbands take their aesthetic cues from the classic red-and-black color scheme of the Disneyland ride, and we love how recognizable that theme is. But when ShopDisney came out with a very different pair of Pirates ears as part of their Limited Release Minnie Mouse the Main Attraction collection, I had to get my hands on a pair.

These ears are still inspired by the classic Disney attraction, but they focus much more on the ride’s shiny gold Pieces of Eight. These coins were made famous by Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, as Will, Elizabeth and Jack Sparrow spend most of the film trying to hide/find/un-curse one this cursed treasure!

Because these ears were part of a limited release, they’re a bit harder to find than your everyday pair. You can reliably find them on eBay and Mercari, but beware that they’re priced like collector’s items instead of everyday accessories.

EAR REVIEW

What We Loved

Unique Theme/Style:

Great!

These ears scream “Pirates!” in a unique way! I love that they aren’t red and black – it opens up a whole new world of gold jewelry for accessorizing.

The sequined ears are only two colors, so the pirate-themed designs really pop from a distance.

Ear Shape/Size:

Great!

I found these ears well-proportioned and perfectly round!

Headband:

Good

This headband is fabric-lined, so it is a bit slippery.

Wearability:

Good

These ears are on a large, wide headband, which means they didn’t pinch my head!

They are, however, a bit slippery due to the fabric-lined headband.

Materials:

Great!

I love a velvet ear, and these are plush and striking!

The gold and black sequins also really catch the light, and I love the leatherette material of the headband itself.

Shipping/Packaging

I bought these at Disney World, but I didn’t crush them on the way home so I’ll count that as a success!

Who would love these?

Ear collectors are probably the primary audience for these ears at this point – when I wear them to Magic Kingdom people usually lament that I’ve cut the tags off of my pair. But I like to actually wear my ears, so I’d say that if you’re obsessed with gold jewelry and Jack Sparrow this would be a great pair of ears for you!

What Needs Work

Stitching/Gluing:

Needs Work

While there isn’t any evident stitching or gluing, the pirate ship centerpiece is rather precariously glued on. This makes me worry about it falling off at the slightest bump!

Bow:

Needs Work

The bow is squashed underneath a giant foam pirate ship! It’s one of the largest embellishments I’ve seen on a Disney bow, but it’s very wobbly and fragile. Plus the ship hides the cute iridescent polka dots on the fabric bow.

Pricing: $$$-$$$$

These ears typically sell for over $150 on resale sites like Mercari and Ebay

Where should future FashionEarstas be seen in these ears?

These would be great to wear to Pirate Night on a Disney Cruise! Grab photos with the characters in their special pirate garb and outshine everyone else at the fireworks show with your sparkly sequin ears!

Overall Score: (4.6/5)

This gorgeous Pirates of the Caribbean ear headband is as glitzy as I could have hoped for from ears inspired by cursed pirate gold! While I find the giant pirate ship on the headband a tad more dangerously-balanced that I’d prefer, it definitely makes a statement!

I hope that you found this review helpful! I’d love to hear what you think of our second pair of pirate ears in the comments. Do you prefer these or a more classic red and black pair? Make sure you check us out on Pinterest, Facebook and Instagram; chances are you will see our ears in action!
