Mischief, Magic & Malice: Loki Ear Review

It is Sinister September, and this FashionEarsta is all about looking her best and dressing lavishly all month (especially since last week was New York Fashion Week)! When I set out to look for a pair of ears to represent the sinister side of Marvel, it really came down to Thanos and Loki for me. Thanos is tough unless you like gaudy jewels and purple sequins… which is pretty much what every pair I encountered seemed to be. But Loki seemed like a great way to maybe even find a pair of ears that would be wearable by all of our masculine readers, too.

To be clear, I really didn’t find anyone who could make great Loki ears without a bow in the center because of the sheer amount of glue required to hold them together. Where are all the brilliant ear designers who make ears for guys? My teenage sons would be completely ON BOARD — send us some that they’d love!

So… rolling with the idea that Loki has a great androgynous, sexy vibe and has even manifested as Lady Loki in comics at times, I went ahead and ordered what I think are one of the most brilliant ear designs I’ve ever seen. Before the big reveal and my review of the ears from Magic Makers Boutique themselves, I thought a little FashionEarsta fashion to go along with Sinister September was in order…

LokiBounding

Loki is dangerous, mischevious, magical and mysterious. On occasion, he is down right evil and full of malice, with a ridiculously narcissistic desire to rule Asgard. And… as previously mentioned, strangely sexy and dark. So why not take the opportunity to capture some of that sinister style and really LokiBound with the right vibe? Here are a few ideas if you identify with the title “God of Mischief” and your life motto is something like “I am burdened with glorious purpose” or “I am the monster parents tell their children about at night.”

As Tom Ford recently said,

“The last thing we need right now is serious clothes.”

Casual and Comfy Loki

If Billy Eilish were going to dress like Loki, this would be her go-to. Though now that I come to think of it, Billy Eilish might actually be Loki reincarnated…? Food for thought.

Villain Mom Loki

How many moms out there are really supervillains pretending to be superheroes? They’re easy to miss because they all have super human powers and are extraordinary at juggling a million different things at once. If you are one of those moms, and you feel like coming out of your shell just a tiny bit, here are a few ideas for you!

Working Woman Loki

Realistically speaking, walking into work dressed obviously as a supervillain probably is not going to earn you bonus points with your boss. Here is a slightly more subtle way for you to bring the “God of Mischief” along with you to your cubicle.

Pumpkin Spice Latte Loki

Weekends this fall are going to be absolutely fabulous – add a mink cashmere coat, a brilliant scepter necklace, a “Burdened with Glorious Purpose” travel mug for your pumpkin spice latte, and the most adorable Loungefly wallet ever. Bring on the coffee and crisp autumn weather!

Night Life Loki

Occasionally, a Loki lover needs to glam it up a bit. To keep it subtle but entirely LokiBounding at the same time, grab this bandage style black armor dress, signature faux leather green biker jacket, a pair of KILLER stilettos and some oversized, statement-making tesseract earrings. Lady Loki is in the house and ready to make some mischief!

I could literally go on for days… vintage Loki, high roller Loki, roller derby Loki… the possibilities are endless! Do you have another Loki look you want to share with me? Please feel free to shoot it to me at eargoddess@fashionearsta.com!

These are literally the craziest ears I’ve ever gotten, so enjoy my review! (And then go get yourself a pair, too!)

EAR REVIEW

What We Loved

Ear Shape/Size:

Excellent. Well-sewn and even.

Stitching/Gluing:

Excellent. Nothing visible – everything is covered with gold braid and rope.

Materials:

Excellent. A variety of materials were used, including sequins, gold braid, and 3D printing. They really are brilliant.

Unique Theme/Style:

Excellent. Do you even need to ask? You can spot these a mile away and know instantly. Each ear has a separate light switch, hidden in a great little pocket.

Headband:

Excellent. Covered in sequin mesh fabric and lined with gold braid, this headband is sturdy and wide, making the ears super easy to wear.

Bow:

Excellent. (I would love ones without a bow, one day!) The bow is well made, stays in place and evenly proportioned.

Wearability:

Excellent. Believe it or not, they don’t move around and are really pretty lightweight despite their size. Even with lights in the ears and the horns, they stay put. Excellent grip due to the braid inside the headband.

Shipping/Packaging:

Excellent. Came packed in a plastic ziploc with air pouches around it – really appreciate the care given.

Turnaround Time:

Good. Got these in less than four weeks, and considering how complex they are, the turnaround seemed fine.

Pricing: $$$

Worth every penny!

Who would love these?

Any of the Loki lovers listed above would love these ears, though FashionEarstas who are particularly fond of sequins and making an entrance might be the best candidates!

What Needs Work

FashionEarstas… I don’t give perfect scores unless things are REALLY perfect. I am SO impressed with these ears, this shop owner, the design… I can’t find anything wrong! The only note I have is this: the horns have pointy, relatively sharp tips and could be dangerous for young kids or in big, packed crowds. As long as you are aware, no trouble at all!

Where should future FashionEarstas be seen in these ears?

You’ve heard people talk about “putting on their crown” or “straightening their tiara”, right? I say, when it’s time to rule the universe, throw THESE on instead! But seriously, if you’re at Disneyland, wearing these to the Avengers Campus when it opens seems like the logical place to get the reaction you’re looking for. Another option is to wear them to a meet and greet with Thor in Tomorrowland!

Overall Score: (5/5)

So friends, enjoy lighting up the night with these ridiculously fun, bold Loki ears. I know I am thrilled at their quality, design and wearability. Five ears!
