Snow White. Ariel. Aurora. Cinderella. Every last Disney Princess out there has been the main character and shining star of her feature animated film… except Jasmine. As I did a little more digging about our fiery and independent daughter of the Sultan, I grew increasingly frustrated by the many controversies around her character. Before we get into that, let’s give her credit where credit is due:
- Jasmine is the first princess to marry a pauper and not a prince. She is rebellious and progressive, going against not only her father but the idea of arranged marriage and laws forcing her to marry.
2. She is the only princess that doesn’t have a gown or dress as her official “look”. She is independent and strong and is comfortable with her body.
3. How many princesses do you know that keep a tiger as a pet?
Seriously, Jasmine is such a fun character with so many strengths! But…
Did you know that there were so many complaints about her face character at Disney World “showing too much skin” that Disney changed her character costume in 2016? Disney officially claims that it was a more “global update to character costumes”, including Mulan and several others, but I read more than one account that claims otherwise. Check out the differences:
Before 2016 After 2016
Which one do you like better? I’m personally a fan of her old-school look, and I even went so far as to order the blingiest pair of Jasmine ears from MausCouture that I could find, just to honor the loss of all that beadwork and glorious gold!
Another controversy surrounded the casting Naomi Scott in the live action remake of Aladdin, with some people claiming that Disney shouldn’t have cast a biracial British-Gujarati Indian, but rather, someone Middle Eastern. There was a lot of blending of South Asian and Middle Eastern nods in the 1992 animated film – the palace was shaped like the Taj Mahal, the tiger’s name was “Rajah”, yet the opening song is called “Arabian Nights”! There are still strong feelings surrounding the decision, because it makes Disney look like they are reinforcing the idea that South Asian and Middle Eastern people are interchangeable on screen.
For me, personally, I think the new film gave Jasmine the movie she deserved. A knowledgeable, qualified, strong-willed and compassionate leader didn’t have to wait for her Sultan dad to eradicate the law so she could marry who she wanted to marry. Instead, she stepped into the position of power as Sultan (again, rebellious!) and changed the law herself! I’m really a much bigger Jasmine fan after the live action film, and I think these incredible ears do her justice!

What We Loved
Materials:
Excellent. Swarovski crystals, braided trim, glittered headband, metal prongs around the big stone. Everything about this was high quality!
Headband:
Excellent. Thick band covered in glitter with braided trim inside to prevent slipping.
Ear Shape/Size:
Excellent. Nice and light, probably due to being made of styrofoam on the inside. They were perfectly symmetrical and evenly spaced.
Bow:
Better than a bow! This tiara is the most amazing creation. Made of tiny gold metal pieces overlapped with one another, it creates an amazingly light crown. The center gem is probably worth the price of the ears with all of its sparkle.
Stitching/Gluing:
Excellent. Not a single bit of glue or stitching in sight!
Shipping/Packaging:
Excellent! This picture doesn’t capture the amazing wrapping paper and bow that were on the outside. Be sure to watch our unboxing video to really catch how awesome the surprise was!
Unique Theme/Style:
Excellent. The beautiful chain and teardrop Swarovski crystals that hang down on your forehead will make it immediately obvious that you are channeling Princess Jasmine!
Pricing: $$$$
Wearability:
Great! I noticed that the teardrop stones tend to spin a little, which doesn’t really bother me. Otherwise, the ears are light, the headband is solid but doesn’t pinch. Caution when removing your ears – take them off away from you (forward) to prevent the tiny prongs on the chain from catching in your hair.
Who would love these?
Princesses who know their strength, lovers of all things sparkly, and FashionEarstas who are looking to turn heads. People will NOTICE you in these beautifully blingy ears!
What Needs Work
Turnaround Time: Ok. The ears took over a month to get to us, due to a delay in her crystals arriving. She was very good about communicating with me about the ears, giving me my choice of colors for the stones and letting me know every step of the way when they were ready to go!
Where should future FashionEarstas be seen in these ears?
Flying high over Adventureland on the Magic Carpets of Aladdin in the Magic Kingdom or meeting Princess Jasmine and Aladdin at the Agrabah Bazaar! You also can check out the meet-and-greets in Morocco at Epcot, which usually has a much shorter line since it tucked way in the back of that pavilion.
Overall Score:
(5/5)
Well, hands down, these ears were worth every last penny. Though they were over $100 with shipping, I am thrilled with everything from their quality to their packaging. Want your own pair?
