I am no Jedi: Ahsoka Tano Designer Ears Review

These Ears are for Star Wars Fans With a Designer Budget!

Visitors to Black Spire Outpost (at Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge in Disney World) can often be spotted in orange and blue outfits nowadays. While Princess Leia hairstyles, Darth Vader cloaks, and couples’ “I love you” and “I know” t-shirts have long been a staple of Disney fashion, Ahsoka Tano is quickly becoming Batuu’s new fashion influencer.

Not sure who Ahsoka is? You can learn the essentials about this character from Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels and The Mandalorian in under 2 minutes here:

We were thrilled when Disney released a pair of limited-release Ahsoka ears on Star Wars Day 2020 as part of their Disney Parks Designer Collection. These ears were designed by Ashley Eckstein for Her Universe. You many know Ashley as the voice actress for Ahsoka Tano in all of the Star Wars animated TV shows!

EAR REVIEW

What We Loved

Unique Theme/Style:

Great!

These ears are vibrantly colored and Ahsoka’s unique markings are easy for any Clone Wars fan to recognize. I also appreciated that the headband itself was themed after Ahsoka’s akul-tooth headdress!

Ear Shape/Size:

Great!

As you’d expect from ears at this price point, they are perfectly proportional and the right size for an adult head.

Headband:

Great!

This headband is actually stuffed like the ears! It also has metallic silver insets on each side with the Her Universe label and Ahsoka’s “I am no Jedi” quote. This headband is fabric on the inside and magically doesn’t feel too small like many of the normal Disney Parks ears.

Bow:

Great!

This bow is overstuffed AND graphic. It’s made of the same leatherette as the ears and I like the consistency of the materials (especially since they have a sheen to them).

Materials:

Good

These ears’ leatherette material seems study, and I appreciate how the patterns are printed on the ears and bow instead of painted or ironed on like they are on imitation pairs. That’s one nice manufacturing touch that sets them apart from ears at lower price points.

Bonus: the fabric of the ears and bows is water-resistant!

Turnaround Time:

Good

Even during the height of COVID-19 restrictions (when I ordered these) they came in under two weeks!

Wearability:

Great!

These are light and one of the few pairs of Disney’s official ears that don’t feel too tight and hurt my head after a few hours. The headband was non-slip and didn’t budge even while I was running around Galaxy’s Edge!

Who would love these?

FashionEarstas who appreciate character development and the power of believable storytelling! Over the 7 seasons of The Clone Wars we get to watch Ahsoka develop from an impetuous (and arguably annoying) student to a strong and confident rebel leader. Wearing these ears is one way to pay homage to the power of good long-term storytelling!

What Needs Work

Stitching/Gluing:

Good

The sides of the ears do have some visible stitches where the weight of the leatherette fabric pulls at the seam.

There is also some fraying on one of the metallic headband “inserts” that I can’t decide if it is intentional or not!

Shipping/Packaging:

Ok

These ears came in a bag inside a bag inside a box inside a box! The ears themselves are very well-protected with both a plastic bag and fabric dust cover. But most collectors expect the black Designer Series box to also arrive in perfect condition, and I’ve seen many complaints of people whose black boxes were scuffed from bouncing around inside the larger shipping box.

I know this sounds like a small quibble, but it’s a big deal if you are hoping that these will have resale value in the future.

Pricing: $$$ – $$$$

Needs Improvement

These ears were originally under $100 when they were released on ShopDisney.com and in stores. But they sold out almost instantly and now cost over $250 on any reseller site (unless you get really lucky).

Maybe it’s just me, but it seems like a shame that these are going to be out of the budget of most fans, and especially the young girls who look up to Ahsoka as a strong character.

Where should future FashionEarstas be seen in these ears?

Ahsoka is always welcome at Black Spire Outpost in Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge. But super-fans will appreciate wearing them on the Millenium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run attraction. I enjoyed shaking my fist at the animatronic of Hondo Ohnaka, who FashionEarstas familiar with The Clone Wars know has a complicated history with Ahsoka!

Overall Score: (4.7/5)

We hope that more FashionEarstas will be able to snag a pair of these gorgeous ears at a decent price – I think that they are amazing but definitely not worth $300 or more! But I’d be curious to hear whether you would be willing to spend that kind of money on a pair of designer ears!

I hope that you found this review helpful! I’d love to hear what you think of this review or just other magical things you have to share in the comments! Make sure you check us out on Pinterest, Facebook and Instagram; chances are you will see our ears in action!
