A Pirate’s Life for Me! Pirates of the Caribbean Ear Review

Ahoy me hardies!  A little-known fact about your EarstaDiva: I adore everything pirates! So imagine my absolute genuine delight when I found these ADORABLE Pirate Ears from Fairy Godmother LLC I had been looking for the perfect addition to my pirate costume and here it was! Now I can be a proper a swashbuckling buccaneer! My outfit has been easily compiled from pieces that I have in my closet.

White Pirate Shirt

Pleather Leggings

Wide Belt

Boots for Days

These are the makings of a great Pirate outfit!

And now I can add these awesome ears!  Over the last few years, we have seen quite a few Pirates plundering the Magic Kingdom, so I decided that since I had the perfect pirate outfit-complete with these outstanding ears – I would look at all things pirate-related at Walt Disney World and take you behind the magic of all the fun-loving pirate adventures that my family has been on over the last few years!

From Smee and Captain Hook to Bootstrap Bill Turner and Captain Jack Sparrow, I love all of Disney’s pirates and their fabulous backstories! My adoration for pirates began the first time I went on The Pirates of the Caribbean Ride at Walt Disney World in the early 1980’s. I loved it so much that I rode it 6 times in a row! Today, this ride is a family favorite, and we make sure to ride it every time we visit the Magic Kingdom.  My favorite part is still the scene with prisoners trying to get the keys from the dog (not to mention the addition of the Pirates of the Caribbean movie story line throughout the ride).

Adventureland Meet and Greet

Have you ever caught the show outside of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride?  It features “Jack Sparrow” going on about this and that. A funny observation that I made last time I was there was that everyone in the front row seemed to be a middle-aged woman. There were a few kiddos watching Captain Jack, but not many. I asked Jack’s Cast Member attendant if she had ever recognized that. She laughed and said that Jack actually has to have two attendants because sometimes the crowd gets a little… ahem… “rowdy” when he was around!  When I went back to meet my husband and kids, I told them this story. They laughed and pointed out that I had left them in the back row to stand in the front…I hadn’t even noticed (oops)!

The Pirates League

This was one of those opportunities where kiddos of all ages could be transformed into a Disney pirate for the day, much like how girls (up to age 12) can go become a Disney Princess for a day at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. Unfortunately, even before Covid-19 closed all of these close-contact experiences, The Pirate League had been permanently shut down. This has definitely left a hole in this family’s heart, but I’m sure that we will find something to fill that void!

The Pirates and Pals Cruise

Now this is a GREAT time!  This adventure starts at the Contemporary Hotel with a dessert party that features Smee and Captain Hook. You are given all kinds of goodies like head scarves, hats and rubber ducks. Smee and Captain Hook pose for photographs before you are then taken to your own private Pirate Ship. You then cruise to the Seven Seas Lagoon to watch the Magic Kingdom fireworks. You are assigned your very own pun-loving Pirate who makes the voyage incredibly fun. Plus the view of the fireworks from the lagoon is such a cool vantage point!

When we went there was a family that had maybe 5-year-old twins: a boy and a girl. These kiddos were DECKED OUT in full gear from their Pirates League makeover: makeup, costumes with cravats, and big pirate hats with plumes – the whole 9 yards. They also must have had a quite a fun and exciting day at the parks because they were passed out! I am talking mouths open, sprawled across the bench seats and sleeping on Mom and Dad’s laps!  Our pirate guide was in hysterics and the parents seemed to think it was pretty funny too, which was a great attitude to have.  It just goes to show that you can’t plan everything, and you need to roll with the punches! At the end of the cruise you are met by Captain Hook and Smee again, and as you walk towards the Contemporary Hotel you may spot Peter Pan!

After having all of this fun with our Disney Pirates it is hard not to adopt the Pirate way of life. Although, I should warn you that if you are dressed as a pirate some of our friends like Cinderella, Jessie and Winnie the Pooh may be a little scared of you. Make sure you:

  1.  bow
  2. use the term “parlay”

This will show our Disney friends you are not a threat to them!

Now that we have all of that covered, let us talk about these FABULOUS ears shall we!?  I fell in love with these the minute I saw them on Etsy!
