In Dr Seuss’s classic, How the Grinch Store Christmas. We are introduced to the Grinch, an angry green man with a hatred of Christmas and all of the annoyances that come with it, his loveable scene-stealing dog, Max, and a precious little one, Cindy Lou Who, that helps the Grinch along his way find the true meaning of Christmas. When I sat down to write a review about these FABULOUS Grinch ears from House of Hair Decor (which I had to have after becoming horribly obsessed with them!), I started thinking about this movie and it made me curious about the story behind the story. Yes, I am wearing my Grinch ears whilst typing out these fun facts! Did I mention they light up!? More on that fun fact later!
To be clear, since there have been so many different versions, I am talking about the animated 1966 version of How The Grinch Stole Christmas. Although I have to say, the most recent animated movie is definitely a favorite of the Seven Seas Bees too!
The first thing that is fascinating about this 30 minute movie is that it is narrated by Boris Karloff. Today, his name may not ring a bell, but back in the 1960’s he was one of the most respected Horror movie actors. In fact, Dr. Seuss himself was not fond of this casting at first, he was afraid it would make the movie too scary.
Another fun fact is that the Grinch, he wasn’t originally green! Can you imagine a black and white Grinch?!? Those were his original colors. The Grinch became his evil green self after Dr. Seuss rented a car that was painted a very shade of green!
Did you ever think that the voice singing the theme song for the Grinch sounded familiar? Maybe you thought, as a number of people believed, that I was the Narrator, Boris Karloff singing this famous tune. You would be correct if you thought that the voice was familiar, but if you thought it was the narrator you would be wrong! Thurl Ravenscroft may not pop into your mind as a recognizable name, but I bet Tony the Tiger does! The incredibly popular advertising icon actually sings “You’re a Mean One Mr. Grinch.”.
I think that the story of How the Grinch Stole Christmas is an important one, especially today. The Grinch gives us a hope that even the most despicable of persons or Grinches, can have a change of heart. We see that time and time again in our Holiday classics, they take us on these journeys through people’s lives so we understand where they became so awful and how their hope is restored. Maybe, just maybe, if we took some time to understand someone’s story, we could help them restore the hope in their lives. When you think about it, that is a pretty profound statement for a 30 minute Christmas program in 1966.
Now lets talk about these AMAZING Ears!!
What We Loved
Excellent. They are a poofy hairy wonderment of perfection!
Excellent. These scream Grinch day and night because THEY LIGHT UP!
Great! I cannot take these ears off! They are a little heavy so they can fall forward a bit. However, they are still amazing.
Excellent! This bow is glued on so there is not a chance of a flip or a flop.
Materials: Gorgeous, soft and beautiful materials!
Excellent. Nice Sturdy box and the ears were wrapped tissue paper with a little air cushion to protect the light box..
Excellent. No noticeable seams or extra glue! The little light switch is hidden so well I even forgot that they lit up!
Excellent. House of Hair Decor was super fast with their shipping! One week! That was it until I had these beauties on my head!!
Excellent. Nice and sturdy, nice lining and not pinchy.
Who would love these?
As my Seven Seas Bees say “CHRISTMAS”! These are incredibly fun and paired with a cute Christmas dress you would be the happiest Grinchy around!
What Needs Work
I knocked a little bit off because they move around on my head. Maybe some teeth on the headband or those little grippy things that you can put inside of the headband would help.
Where should future FashionEarstas be seen in these ears?
Main Street USA. You would fit right in with the beautiful decor Disney decks this famous street out in. You would have a most festive picture posing in front of the castle!
Overall Score: (4.9/5.0)
