Disney Ear Review: Dole Whip Ears

FashionEarstas love a good party, so we’re celebrating the last days of summer with Dole Whip ears and more fashion inspired by this classic Disney treat!

Here in the U.S. Northeast, people are already busting out the Pumpkin Spice lattes, watching college football on Saturday afternoons, and looking forward to the days when our very hot summer finally cools down. We love fall, but fall is the gateway to winter and some of these FashionEarstas just aren’t ready for that! We need something that reminds us of sunshine and happiness, and since Dole Whip is “sunshine in a cup,” we couldn’t have asked for a timelier treat!

To bring the taste of Dinsey Dole Whip up north, we found the perfect light-up Dole Whip ears from Etsy store MistysMouseEars!

We’ve also tracked down Dole’s recipe for these tasty treats and are sharing it here.  If you try making it, be sure to dress up for the occasion (and send us pictures!)

We found two recipes: a nondairy as well as a full dairy “classic” version. The nondairy version comes straight from Dole.com and the dairy version has been seen recently released by the official DisneyParks blog.  Make sure to try both and let us know what you think which your guests prefer!

What We Loved

Ear Shape/Size:

Excellent. Nice, puffy, well-structured ears.

Excellent. The stitching and gluing is very well done.

Excellent. The bow is perfect!  It is a triple layer bow and is not too big and bulky! AND! AND! AND! there is a not- so- hidden Mickey on the bow! Can you spot it in the photos? Love that detail!

Excellent. Despite being a stuffed ear and having some natural weight to them, the ears stay put because of the strong headband. Also comes with hair clips to secure in place.

Unique Theme/Style:

Excellent. The theme is definitely conveyed well!

Excellent. Lovely materials were used. Loved the flowers!

These ears came wrapped in tissue paper and were packed in a nice sturdy box. I am not sure if it just happened this way or was planned or coincidence, but I appreciated the yellow tissue paper that went with my sunshine-yellow themed ears!

Turnaround Time:

About one week, which is good seeing all the options that you can choose. This felt quite speedy and sets this shop apart from many others.

Pricing: $$$

Who would love these?

These ears would be perfect for anyone who would want to take their love of Disney’s Dole Whip to a whole new level!  Further, anyone who is looking for something a little different to Disney Bound!

If you’re looking to top off a bright outfit and stand out from the massive Disney Parks summer crowds, these ears will put you a head above the rest! Everyone has Minnie Ears, but it takes a special level of DisNerdiness to dress up like food. Plus, their light-up feature means that you will still look great in pictures after the fireworks!

PRO TIP: Wait to grab a Dole Whip until right before the Magic Kingdom closes. There will be zero wait to get your treat and you’ll have plenty of time waiting for the monorail or bus to take cute matching pictures in your glowing ears!

What Needs Work

Needs work. I am really bummed about this headband. It is the only real downside of these ears. These are expensive ears, they are heavy ears and, they need a thick sturdy headband to support their weight. They currently have a plastic headband that feels unsubstantial.

Where should future FashionEarstas be seen in these ears?

You can bet your bottom dollar I will be wearing these my new Dole Whip Ears to Spring Dapper Days at Disney!  They will make the perfect statement with a vintage sundress and sunshine yellow cardigan. The Aladdin’s Magic Carpet Ride in Adventure Land would also be a great choice, but don’t forget that the Dole Whip (they also have a version for adults over 21) is also featured at the Hawaiian Stand during Epcot’s Food and Wine Festival and year-round at Animal Kingdom!

Overall Score: (4.8/5)

These are definitely one of my favorite pair of ears. They are as delicious as Dole Whip itself, and overall, they win points for their unique styling and the light-up features! I think I am becoming a little obsessed with Disney food ears! If nothing else, they are a great conversation starter whilst you are standing in line with your new Dole Whip friends at Sunshine Tree Terrace or singing along in the Enchanted Tiki Room!
