She’s glamourous. She’s got a film career that spans over 9 decades. She has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Her fashion sense is impeccable, changing with the times, but always on point with what is classic for the day and age. (And have we mentioned her gorgeous eyelashes?) That’s right, it’s MINNIE MOUSE!

Minnie is classy, cheerful, and feminine. She is filled to the brim with love and affection, sweet to nearly everyone she comes across, and inspires goodness in people. What’s not to love?
The Original FashionEarsta!
So in honor of this year’s Festival of the Arts, the classic Minnie of the Roaring 20’s, and the love of Steamboat Willie in our house, I decided to order these fun ears from Ears 2 You Inc. (Please note that my EarGoddess icon is also Classic Minnie!) Why Classic Minnie? Friends, she is the OG. The Original FashionEarsta herself!
Born in 1928, she was designed in the fashion of the flapper girls of the age. Her main outfit consisted of a short dress that revealed her distinctive patched knickers and her black stockings. Also, let’s give a knowing nod to her oversized high heels, throwing all of us back to the days when we “clomp clomped” around in our mother’s shoes as kids!
Her outfits have evolved, too: During the 1960s, for example, she wore a sporty hat and coat with a dash of red lipstick:

But polka dots have always been a staple of her wardrobe — it’s no coincidence Minnie received her star on National Polka Dot Day! “Polka dots have always been a key characteristic of Minnie’s image, along with her bow,” says Josh Silverman of Disney Consumer Products. “She has sported polka dots since her debut in 1928 and helped to make the iconic print a noteworthy fashion trend.”
Still don’t see how she influences the fashion world?
- Marc Jacobs, Anna Sui and Comme des Garcons are among the designers that have created Minnie wear during the past decade.

3. And this:

Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger says, “Minnie always finds time to use her many talents and celebrity to lift spirits, bring laughter to children, and support causes that are making a positive impact on countless communities. She has the ability to touch hearts and bring joy everywhere she goes. For all of her many accomplishments as an entertainer and a fashionista, I think what we love most about Minnie Mouse is her ability to just make us smile.”
The Early Years

Minnie’s first public release was in the early classic Steamboat Willie, though it was actually the third short that she had made with Mickey. By their important film together in 1929, Mickey’s Follies, Minnie had already jumped out of a plane, danced the tango, and faced Pete multiple times. In this new film, though, Mickey premiered his song “Minnie’s Yoo-Hoo”, and made public their obvious affections for one another.
Before long, both she and her long-time sweetheart got a complete redesign in 1940, complete with her iconic bow (which is such an immediately identifiable fashion accessory thanks to her contribution to the fashion world now). But prior to this she wore her very fashionable and highly recognizable flower pot hat with the flower. Once the world of color was injected into their films, Minnie added a blue hat and a red hat to her wardrobe.
But no matter how modern Minnie gets, I will still always love her vintage, black-and-white early fashion plate, flapper-eqsue look. We even have her on display in Lego form in our library!

EAR REVIEW
What We Loved
Unique Theme/Style:
Excellent. I love that not only are these recognizable as Minnie, but they scream “Steamboat Minnie”!

Materials:
Good. Satin ears, heavy duty felt hat, and solid headband.

Shipping/Packaging:
Excellent. Came packed in tissue paper with a sturdy box and adorable matching business card, postcard and sticker!

Ear Shape/Size:
Good. Ears are stuffed well and are nice and smooth, but the ears feel a little small in proportion to the hat and on my head. Again, I wear my hair back in a ponytail or a bun, so it might be less obvious with hair that’s down.

Stitching/Gluing:
Good. There is the tiniest bit of glue showing on the back of the hat where the edges come together, but it isn’t visible from a distance.

Pricing: $$
Excellent. Lots of love went into the construction of these ears, and the value is great.
Bow:
Obviously, Minnie hasn’t gotten her bow yet because it’s only 1928! But her flower pot hat is great!

Who would love these?
Anyone who appreciates classic animation, Minnie Mouse in all her various evolutions, or people who love EarGoddess and want to have the same ears as my little signature icon!
What Needs Work
Headband:
Ok. Sturdy and lined with felt to prevent slipping, but really tight on my fairly normal-sized head.

Turnaround Time:
Ok. These took a month to receive.
Wearability:
Ok. Because the headband is so tight the ears stay on pretty well. However, they are heavy and do tip a little, and I don’t know that I could wear these in the park all day without getting a headache.

Where should future FashionEarstas be seen in these ears?
Seems like the perfect pair of ears for a FashionEarsta to wear while touring Epcot’s Festival of the Arts or visiting Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway in Hollywood Studios!

Overall Score:
(3.8/5)
So let’s pay some proper respect today for the original FashionEarsta herself, classic Minnie. Throw on Disney+ and give her early filmography some love! And be sure to port some polka dots today!
