We here at FashionEarsta are definitely focused on the designer ear theme right now, with EarstaDiva’s latest post about her Betsey Johnson knock off ears and our feature on the secret world of designer ear collecting. While I may not have been successful getting Chanel-style ears with the tweed bow and quilted leather on shopDisney (sad face), I did decide that I didn’t need this specific pair to embody that classic Chanel vibe.
In the famous words of iconic fashion designer Coco Chanel:
In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different.

The Hunt for Couture Ears
In the true spirit of Coco Chanel’s quote, I decided to try to find a pair of ears that weren’t exactly like the originals but captured the spirit of Chanel and felt like “designer” ears at first glance. I also wanted to make sure that these ears were going to support my forever ongoing obsession with Princess Aurora and would allow me to create some fabulous casual couture looks for park-going. Have you seen my custom Vans? My tshirts? My pins? My complete Besame Sleeping Beauty makeup collection? (I really do have a Sleeping Beauty addiction.)
Ok, back to my hunt for ears.
Friends, let me tell you how hard it was to find Chanel-inspired ears that didn’t look awful. Oh my goodness! It took all three of us FashionEarstas sleuthing to find a website with decent couture-inspired ears. To be fair, I DID find a pair of ears that are almost identical knockoffs, but that wasn’t what my hunt was for! Eventually, we found a great pair of ears with a MATCHING MASK that were the perfect shade of pink on By Travie. Since the time that I ordered and received these ears (about three weeks ago), all of the designer-inspired ears have disappeared from her site. however, she does still have plenty of ears for you to explore!
Since this particular pair of ears is now unavailable, we recommend checking out the other ears at By Travie here!
What We Loved
Wearability:
Great! Super light, headband doesn’t slip, definitely wearable for an entire day at the park.

Ear Shape/Size:
Excellent. Nice and light, well-proportioned and evenly spaced.

Turnaround Time: Great! From the time of the order to the time at my doorstep, it was about two weeks!

Shipping/Packaging:
Excellent! Holy cow! Custom tissue paper, a sturdy box, AND… freebies! This little plastic bag not only contained my matching mask, but an additional mask, a fuzzy head wrap for doing your makeup, and a package of M&M’s!

Unique Theme/Style:
Excellent. There is no mistaking this quintessential style and iconic logo!

Pricing: $$
Who would love these?
Couture-loving divas with a desire to look a little more “upscale”, lovers of cotton ears that will stand up to the elements, and FashionEarstas that want to go with a non-Disney character look will all love these ears.
What Needs Work
Stitching/Gluing:
Needs Work. Really disappointed with the appearance of this headband. You can see all of the hardened hot glue through the fabric, and it leaves a bumpy appearance. Also, lots of hot glue strands left hanging from the bow, inside headband, etc. Ears were attached to the headband really well, with no visible glue or stitching.

Bow:
Ok. While I absolutely LOVE how puffy and stuffed this bow is, there was definitely a lot of asymmetry on either side. After some wiggling and moving it around, I was able to get it looking slightly more even.

Materials:
Ok. Fabric was lovely and the bow and ears were nicely stuffed. Not happy with how transparent and thin the fabric was when it came to covering the glue and making sure the headband looked finished and clean.

Headband:
Ok. Lined with a moleskin type of fabric that was not well-glued. Came loose after the first time I took it off my head. Otherwise, very comfortable and lightweight, and doesn’t slip.

Where should future FashionEarstas be seen in these ears?
Disney Springs and SHOPPING seem like the perfect place to be seen! Looking for brand name accessories? Try the Marketplace for your Dooney & Bourke fix! Also, be sure to stop by Alex and Ani, Coach, Pandora, and more!

Overall Score:
(3.4/5)
Although I think these ears are super cute, iconically Chanel, and will go well with a couple of my Aurora looks, I am really disappointed about the construction. After “floofing” the bow a bit, it looks great, and I feel good about wearing them all day.
Since this particular pair of ears is now unavailable, we recommend checking out the other ears at By Travie here!
On that note, I’m off to create my Aurora looks for my imminent return to Walt Disney World!
