Aloha Ears Design: Catch the Wave of Interchangeable Ears

Overview

One of the relatively few Disney ear shops not on Etsy, Aloha Ears Design is operated out of Wisconsin, USA by Disney duo Dana and Phillip. This shop exclusively sells 3D-printed ears and all of their ears, bows, headbands and tiaras are completely interchangeable! These ears are so easy to snap off and switch out for another pair that you could do a wardrobe change on the bus from Magic Kingdom to Hollywood Studios!

Everything about Aloha Ears Design fosters customer loyalty; not only are subsequent pairs of ears much cheaper once you have purchased your headband and bow, but they also have a rewards program and a significant discount on bulk ear orders. Plus we love their emailed newsletter that updates you on upcoming releases and how the owners are donating portions of their sales to four charities!

Price Range: $30 ears plus $10 headband plus $6.50 bow or $25 tiara

Number of products: 58 ears with 3 interchangeable bow styles and 13 tiara options

Turnaround time: Our orders took an average of three weeks to arrive

What We Love

We can’t get over the lightweight and super-portable design, the interchangeable ear system, and the intricacy of the detailing on these 3D ears.
Many of their designs are like miniature paintings: packed full of hidden Mickeys and tiny flowers.

Who Would Love This Shop

This shop is excellent for FashionEarstas who want to work a lot of looks during their day at Disney. These adorable ears are so packable that you can fit four pairs into one Loungefly mini-backpack! This shop also has plenty of designs for FashionEarstas who prefer a more minimal design, who don’t want a bow on their ears, or who would rather have their ears on a ball cap. A feature that I suspect many will love is the “add ears to your own cap” option, where you can send the shop your own hat and they will convert it into an ear cap with detachable ears.

What Needs Work

Some of the small, intricate details on the interior of the ears are a bit fragile and bend under average amounts of pressure.
While the ears can be worn without anything in the center (either a bow or tiara), if you choose to rock your ears that way there will be a patch of Velcro very visible on the top of the headband (see photo below).

Why We Chose Them

We chose Aloha Ears Design after seeing their gorgeous product photos on Instagram! Their social media game is on fire and they actively share professional-quality photoshoots of models wearing their ears to social media and via their email newsletter.

How is the Shop to Use?

Because they have their own website, there are separate pages for Aloha Ears Design’s different products, as well as helpful features such as an FAQ and even a color directory! You can see prices in various currencies, and most information is very easily accessible. The only thing their website doesn’t feature is their release schedule, and since their most popular designs tend to sell out, you have to follow them on social media or subscribe to their newsletter to know when to log on and snag a limited edition pair.

A casual browser might not immediately understand Aloha Ears Design’s system, though each ear listing clearly reminds you that you need to purchase a headband and bow separately. The owners also provide links in each item’s description to where you can buy the matching headbands and other items, but someone looking to just “shop the look” from their gorgeous Instagram photos can’t just find all three items from the “Lost Princess” look  in one place.

What Customer Service Can You Expect?

We love that they have answered many of our potential questions in advance on their website’s FAQ page. They are very clear about turnaround times for email inquiries (2 days) as well as their current turnaround times on ears. I have seen these times listed on their website anywhere from two to four weeks, and I think that it’s a nice touch that you have to click on an acknowledgement of the turnaround time before you can place an order.

What People are Saying

FROM CUSTOMERS:

“Aloha Ears Design is at it again with giving us some fashionable ears to wear to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Some might call it an obsession but- actually you’re right. It’s an obsession. #sorrynotsorry”

“Seriously, if you haven’t checked out their shop, do it. Chat with them, get to know them, support them; you won’t regret it!”

“Today was my first day wearing my ears in park and …. OH.EM.GEE. I am in love, not only are they beautiful but I totally forgot I was wearing them since they are so darn comfortable!! 1,000,000,000 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!!!”

Packaging & Shipping

These ears arrived in a cellophane envelope inside a sturdy cardboard box. Because the exteriors of the ears are made of hard plastic, there seems to be little chance that they will be damaged in transit and there wasn’t additional padding included. I also loved the shop sticker and flyer that came with the package.

OVERALL SCORE:  (4.9/5)

I am a three-time customer from Aloha Ears Design and I’m sure that I will be back for more now that I’m earning rewards points – they make it so easy to justify buying another pair or a different color bow! I’m also extremely grateful for the shop’s commitment to helping others with their platform and the way that they engage with current events in their newsletter. Overall, buying from Aloha Ears Design was more like the first step to a lifelong addiction than a shopping experience, and I think I’m ok with that!

  2. Worst experience ever! It took 2 months to get my ears. Arrived a couple of days before my trip. By the time I put them in, they broke! Didn’t even last two wears. When I made an inquiry didn’t hear back. Then when I posted on social media my disastrous experience, they deleted my comment and blocked me. For the cost of these ears, I would go with someone else!

    1. Wow, that’s terrible! I’m so sorry this happened to you – thanks for letting all of us know about your experience with this shop.
