A Magical After Hours Experience: Pandora Ear Review

Oel ngati kameie. I see you, FashionEarstas! Our fans are what make this site special, and we hope you know how much we love you!

It’s story time! On Valentine’s Day weekend 2020, I visited WDW for the first time in years. (For you passholders, I’m reminding you that this is a judgment free zone.) It was my first time seeing Batuu, Nav’i, and a whole bunch of other remarkable changes. In light of our quick in-and-out weekend visit, we had to pack a lot in to just a couple days to see it all. Fortunately, there was a Disney After Hours event being held at Animal Kingdom, so we went there right when we got to the parks.

Friends, I was not PREPARED for the magic that is Pandora at night!!!!! The second we walked over the bridge, I noticed the difference in sounds, smells, temperature, humidity, and yes… light. It was mesmerizing, and all of the rumors I had heard about the bioluminescent foliage was true — it was absolutely magical.

We were quite late to the event, but with about ten people in the park and about an hour and a half left, we were able to:

  • Walk right up to Avatar Flight of Passage
  • Take the Na’vi River Journey bioluminescent boat ride (animatronics have come SO far)
  • Check out a traditional Na’vi drum circle with the Pandora Drummers
  • Walk the circle
  • Feed my new pin addiction
  • See the World Tree awaken

I literally think only Eywa has the power to keep this massive mountain floating. Our Chief Ears Officer (yes, he’s my valentine) and I stood there, wondering at it for quite some time in the dark. We decided to come back to get a better picture of it during the day.

Not only did we come back to check out Pandora, we couldn’t possibly pass up riding Everest, going on a Safari, and seeing our favorite friends at Tusker House. Obviously, we came back during the day for some fun!

When we started FashionEarsta (inspired in many ways by this trip), I knew I had to have a pair of Pandora ears to remember this fantastic night. And wouldn’t you know, FashionEarstas? I found a pair that not only lights up but GLOWS! Check out these amazing Pandora themed ears from Up to My Ears Design on Etsy!

EAR REVIEW

What We Loved

Materials:

Excellent. From the grapevine wreaths to the succulents, all the materials are excellent.

Unique Theme/Style:

Excellent. I can’t say enough about all the components and how much these ears scream Pandora.

Wearability:

Excellent. I thought these would be awkward when I first saw them, but they absolutely stay put on your head and aren’t heavy at all!

Pricing: $$$

Great. On the pricier end, but with glow in the dark and light up features, I feel like these are fairly priced.

Headband:

Great. These suede covered headbands are my favorite headbands — not too tight and they have just enough “grab” to stay in place.

Turnaround Time:

Excellent. Got these in just one week!

Who would love these?

Obviously Avatar fans! Also, anyone who is looking for ears without a bow and/or floral ears that look different from what you typically see will love this pair of unique grapevine and succulent ears.

What Needs Work

Ear Shape/Size:

Good. Slightly uneven due to the grapevine wreaths being a little different.

Stitching/Gluing:

Good. A little bit of glue is visible where the fairy lights are attached to the grapevine, but it is hardly noticeable.

Where should future FashionEarstas be seen in these ears?

Absolutely wear these around Animal Kingdom, but any Disney After Hours event would be fabulous because you’ll light up the night with your fabulous ears!

Overall Score: (4.9/5)

I am so in love with these ears. It’s very hard to get a focused picture of them glowing in the dark, but here is a blurry attempt to show you their magic! The second photo is with the fairy lights turned on.

You get the idea – these look GREAT in the dark, even without the fairy lights turned on!
All lit up for Disney After Hours!

This seems like a great week to revisit the movie Avatar with the kids (and make some of the drinks they serve at the Satu’li Canteen). Let’s keep the magic alive!
